Callum Brittain is aiming to hit the ground running at Rovers after becoming the first signing of the Jon Dahl Tomasson era.

The talented defender, who's equally comfortable playing at right-back or right wing-back, has arrived from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at Ewood Park.

The 24-year-old impressed during his two seasons with the Tykes, playing his part as the Yorkshire-based side reached the Sky Bet Championship play-offs in 2020-21.

Although last term ended in relegation for Brittain and Barnsley, the former MK Dons man was one of the team's shining lights, featuring 37 times in all competitions.

And he's thrilled to secure a swift return to the second tier by making the switch across the Pennines and admits he can't wait to get on the pitch in blue-and-white to show everyone exactly what he can do.

“I’m really excited to be here," he beamed to RoversTV following the move.

“It’s something I’ve been stressing over for a little while and I’m delighted everything’s managed to get over the line now. I’m here and we got there in the end, it feels great.

“It’s an opportunity to play in the Championship again, it’s a massive club, I’ve played at Ewood a few times now and it’s always been a class environment to play football in. I hope to hit the ground running and am excited to play at home.

“I’ve played in the Championship over the last few years and I didn’t really want to drop down to League One again," he admitted.

“I’m thankful to the club for giving me the chance to be in the Championship again.

“I’m excited to be here and can’t wait to get started.”
