Rovers are pleased to announce that young midfielder Charlie Weston has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a two-year pro deal through to June 2024.
An England youth international, Weston played a key role as Rovers reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup and secured a fifth-place finish in the U18 Premier League table last term.
The box-to-box midfielder, who scored in the FA Youth Cup third round victory over Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s, also made a handful of appearances for Mike Sheron’s Under-23s during the 2021-22 Premier League 2 campaign.
“This is a massive day for me and a moment I’ve been working towards my whole life,” he said.
“It’s one of the best days you can get as a footballer. It’s any young player’s dream and I’m happy to have made my dream come true.
“It’s been a long journey, but a journey that I’ve been willing to do in order to achieve my dream. Since I joined at Under-14s, all the Academy coaches have helped me progress both as a footballer and as a person, and I’m really grateful for that.
“Next season will be a big jump up from Under-18s football. I had a taste of it at the start of last season and that opened my eyes to the level I need to get to. I just need to keep putting the work in and hopefully the rewards will come.”
Congrats, Charlie!
