Jon Dahl Tomasson has given positive news on his selection choices ahead of this weekend's trip to Wigan Athletic.

The Dane has revealed that Scott Wharton and Daniel Ayala have been back in training this week, with a decision to make on whether the pair will feature at the DW Stadium.

Sam Szmodics is also available for selection having not been risked last weekend against Bristol City, but both Callum Brittain and Sam Gallagher remain sidelined and won't feature against Leam Richardson's Latics.

“Scott trained during this week, not 100 percent all the days, but he started back on Monday," he told RoversTV in his pre-match press conference.

“Ayala’s been out, he’s been moving a bit, we will see how he feels and how things go with him.

“Callum and Sam won’t be ready for this match but they are out on the training pitches and doing a bit more. I hope there will be positive progress with them.

“Slowly but surely, we are getting more players back and that’s really positive.

“It’s about competition, each player needs to perform and, as a coach, you need to disappoint people because it’s about Rovers winning games," he added.

“It’s nice to have choices because it’s about the competition and the team doing well. Every club needs competition, it’s a healthy thing.”
