Rovers Women can confirm that long-serving defender Kayleigh Mcdonald has departed the club following the expiration of her contract.
Mcdonald calls time on her seven year stay with Rovers due to work commitments away from football.
The defender joined the Blues back in 2016 and quickly cemented herself as a popular figure both on and off the pitch.
Mcdonald made 23 appearances during in her maiden Rovers campaign as she helped the side lift their first of three consecutive FA Women’s National League North titles.
The 29-year-old went onto to make over 70 appearances during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons as she and the team also won the FA Women’s National League Cup back-to-back.
Mcdonald also played the full 90 minutes in the side’s play-off final against Coventry United back in May 2019 as she helped the side secure their place in the Barclays Women’s Championship with a 3-0 victory.
The defender continued to be a mainstay in the side’s defence as Rovers began their life in the Championship.
Mcdonald helped the side to their first-ever Championship win with a 1-0 victory away to Durham back in October 2019 and she was also named as the club’s 2020-21 Player of the Year.
One of Mcdonald’s most memorable moments in the blue-and-white halves came against Lewes back in February 2022. The defender fired home her first-ever Championship goal to secure the side an important 1-0 win and their safety in the league for another campaign.
Mcdonald departs the club having made 153 appearances and have scored nine goals across all competitions.
Everyone at Rovers thanks Kayleigh for the countless memories and impact she has made during her seven year stay with the club and we wish her the very best for the future.
