On Sunday 8th December, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust welcomed a record number of 1,656 entries of another successful Blackburn 10k.
The annual race, sponsored by Barratt Homes, and organised in co-ordination with Run Through, started and finished in front of Ewood Park’s Riverside Stand, passing local landmarks including Wainwright Bridge, Blackburn Cathedral and King George’s Hall before looping back to the home of Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
The adult event was won by Reece Brown with a time of 32 minutes and 10 seconds. Young people could also take part in a one-kilometre junior race around the perimeter of Ewood Park, won by Alexander Ball.
The Blackburn 10k brought the local community together, with friends and family supporting the runners as they passed through the town’s streets.
The race helped raise funds for Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, to support the numerous projects and programmes the charity run to support the local community.
Ryan Loftus, Events, Partnerships and Facilities Manager at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, said: “I’d like to thank all of the runners who took part in Sunday’s event, even though the weather conditions were difficult we had a great turn out and everyone involved had a fantastic morning.
“Also, a huge thank you to our sponsors, Barratt Homes, for supporting the event, and the team at Run Through, who once again helped us host another successful Blackburn 10k event which started and finished at the home of Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
"It was fantastic to see so many runners take part on the day and over 30 Rovers Runners representing BRFC in our initiative which aligns with the Premier League Fans Fund's (PLFF) objectives.
"The funds received from the PLFF allow the race to be fully inclusive and affordable to all of the community."
James Ormerod, who kindly donated £500 towards the Trust’s Rovers Runners initiative, also participated in the race, and scored a personal best run.
James, owner of local business, JMO Creative, added: “Yet again, it was a very successful event and well done to all those who helped organise the race, and to those who took part.
“I am pleased I could help by donating towards the Rovers Runners initiative and of course recording a personal best, knocking six minutes off my time.”
