Bio

The attacking full-back, who can also operate in midfield, became the first signing of the Jon Dahl Tomasson era when he put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract at Ewood Park through to June 2026.

Having started his career at MK Dons, Brittain gained his first taste of senior football during a short loan spell with Icelandic side Throttur Reykjavik in the summer of 2016, aged just 18.

He returned to make his Dons debut in the Checkatrade Trophy, prior to making his league bow in a 4-0 win away to Peterborough United early in the New Year.

In an impressive start to the 2017-18 season, Brittain scored his first senior goal in a 1-1 draw against Oxford United in September 2017, before making his international debut for England Under-20s in a 5-1 win against Italy a month later.

The versatile youngster made over 100 league appearances for MK Dons, helping them secure automatic promotion from League Two in 2018-19, before joining Barnsley for an undisclosed fee in October 2020.

Brittain enjoyed a stellar debut season at Oakwell, starting 40 league games, including both games against Rovers, as Barnsley defied the odds to secure a fifth-place finish and reach the Championship play-offs, where they were knocked out by Swansea at the semi-final stage.

One of the division’s most consistent performers again in 2021-22, Callum started 34 league games for the Tykes.

After securing a spot in the team at the beginning of 2022-23, Brittain suffered a knee injury against Preston North End in the first game back after the FIFA World Cup break in November, with the issue ruling him out of action for three months.

The full-back returned to action in February 2023, but the form of Joe Rankin-Costello meant he was in and out of the side. However, the 26-year-old still ended the campaign with 29 appearances in all competitions and produced consistent displays in an injury-free 2023-24.
